He was born on October 2 and his father decided to name him ‘Gandhi’- Rupinder Gandhi. At 22, he was the sarpanch of his village, a national- level football player, a student at Panjab University Chandigarh and a local ‘youth icon’.

Then things changed — petty fights turned into gang wars, weapons flashed in streets and as the ‘respect’ for him turned into fear, this Gandhi from village Rasoolra of Khanna in district Ludhiana, unlike the man he was named after, became synonymous with violence.
Twelve years after he was brutally murdered, a Punjabi movie titled ‘Rupinder Gandhi- The Gangster?’ is all set to hit the screens next week.

Rupinder Gandhi born and brought up in the village Rasulra of Khanna district near Ludhiana, Punjab, Rupinder Gandhi was the youngest Sarpanch of the village. At the age of 22 years old. Not only a head of his village, Rupinder Gandhi has a great sportsperson within him. Rupinder Gandhi is a Former President of Panjab University Students Union (PUSU),Chandigarh And He is Also a National Level football player.He is a Youth Icon and Motivator and HERO for Punjab. He was the youngest son born in Aujla family. The day he was born, has been celebrated as Gandhi Jayanti. As his birth date was 2nd October, Rupinder’s father decided to call him as Gandhi.

Village people says that Rupinder Gandhi was so popular in his village that he became a youth icon for all the youngsters in and around his place. Death
Rupinder Singh, sarpanch of Rasulra village and head of a gang was kidnapped on September 5. The body of the victim was reportedly thrown into a canal and has not been recovered.
